Ambrose’s Lake Bunyonyi Quickie — For Lifetime Impact!

The absolute star of the first full GHE Friendship Camp day at Edirisa on Lake Bunyonyi was Ambrose Kibuuka. He’s our co-founder, education and careers consultant, best-selling author of “After University, What Next?”, and possibly the busiest man alive. Yesterday morning he rolled in on a night bus from Kampala (took him 12 hours!), squeezed us into his crammed schedule, and before you knew it, he was already on another road rocket heading the opposite way. He is greeting you from his home 450 km/280 mi away!

Ambrose managed to pull off two sessions, sneaking in a nap in the tree house like a proper pro. The morning was Personal Reflection and Goal Setting, where he spilled the story of starting out as a teaching assistant because he just couldn’t get enough of passing knowledge around. Lovely stuff, but then he realised his true passion wasn’t just teaching students — it was shaking up the system itself! To influence the classroom, he had to leave it. That turning point only came after some serious self-reflection (the kind that makes you wince a little before it sets you free).

In the afternoon he switched gears to Entrepreneurship & Project Design. Out came an optical illusion to prove how easy it is to miss your own potential when you’re stuck in one way of seeing the world. According to him, dreams don’t fizzle out because they’re impossible — they fizzle because you don’t stop to figure out what’s actually needed to make them happen. And just when we thought he was finished, Ambrose tossed in the six pillars of capital. The survival kit for any business idea, basically.

So, yes, Ambrose may have called his trip to Lake Bunyonyi “tourism”, but for the dozens of youngsters from DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda it felt more like a crash course in sorting your head out, chasing dreams with a bit more focus, and maybe even seeing life from a new angle. Not bad for a man who only popped in between two epic bus rides, right?
