The Flavours of Lake Bunyonyi: From Garden to Treehouse
How about this for a lunch spot … or up in a treehouse, legs swinging, lake views for days? Yep, that’s Edirisa on Lake Bunyonyi for you. Whether you’re a meat-lover, veggie, vegan, or have one of those “my tummy says no” diets, we’ve got your back. And if choosing from a menu sounds like effort, you can always join the staff meal. It’s simple but cooked with love, always hits the spot, and sets you back just about 3 dollars. Quite a bargain, innit?

Our kitchen’s not massive, but it’s proper cozy and full of good smells. Everything’s made fresh — no dusty tins or weird powdery stuff here. You’ve got to try the pancakes and crepes, but if you really want to impress your taste buds, it’s all about the crayfish. We’re obsessed. Curry, masala, wrapped in chapati or stuffed in a wrap. It’s basically a crayfish love affair. And most of what ends up on your plate? Straight from the garden or plucked out of the lake. No joke.

So how do we pull it off? Well, every year our Greek and Cypriot mates from Wheeling2help rock up and kick off brilliant little projects — chicken rearing, mushrooms sprouting, rabbits bouncing about. It all feeds into our kitchen magic. We can take care of over 30 hungry wanderers at once, including those craving proper Ugandan eats like Katogo — a warm, mushy hug made of matooke, Irish potatoes, beans or groundnuts. Sounds odd, tastes amazing.

And steering this delicious ship? Our kitchen dream team: Brenda Katusiime, Levi Ayebare, Moses Oshaba, and Sammy the Cat. Absolute legends. And here’s the thing — you don’t have to be sleeping at Edirisa (or even at Bunyonyi) to eat like royalty. Day guests are totally welcome. We’ve got loads of cracking spots to dine, but the treehouse is the fan fave. It’s also the HQ for our famous Dugout Dining, the culinary adventure of Lake Bunyonyi!
Whether you’ve just hiked, paddled, or done absolutely nothing all day, you get to hang with the kitchen crew while they cook you something mouthwatering. It’s food, fun, and just a bit fabulous.
