    Kisiizi Falls /Uganda/

    altitude: 1,640 m/5,380 ft

This pretty waterfall in southwestern Uganda has gory history: pregnant unmarried girls used to be thrown over the falls as a punishment (there were similar places all around the Gorilla Highlands region). Oral history says that the practice stopped after one of the victims pulled her father and brother down the cliff.

Conveniently located between Lake Bunyonyi and Queen Elizabeth National Park, it offers a a visitor centre and a monument. A suspension bridge takes travellers closer to the waterfall, and a zip line ride can further entertain them. The falls and the tourism proceeds power astonishing work by a rural hospital: extensive health insurance, a rehab unit for kids with cerebral palsy, a school of nursing and more.
