From international brands to little community places, the Gorilla Highlands region does not lack for accommodation variety! Around gorilla national parks the prices shoot up but that is surely not due to lack of competition, the lodges are many — it is simply a reflection of how much visitors are ready to pay for gorilla permits.
GORILLA HIGHLANDS POCKET GUIDE
Our free booklet has an accommodation section that can give you quite an idea of what is available. Download it here.
We have to say something about local terminology first… Note that a “double room” contains one big bed while a “twin room” implies two separate beds. A “banda” is a “cottage”. The term “self-contained” means the same as “en-suite”, guaranteeing you toilet privacy.
Hot water can be delivered through the pipes in fancier places, or brought in a bucket at budget or extremely remote places. Free wifi is widespread, masseurs are common around national parks and in cities, and there is hardly any amenity that can’t be found.
For the adventurous among you, the Gorilla Highlands Experts team has also developed village homestays that are based on pitching our tents in family compounds. These come with shared pit latrines and with lake bathing, but you get the gift of authenticity levels you will brag about. You literally stay with locals.
LET’S TAKE THIS LINE OF THOUGHT FURTHER
If you are not repelled by the idea of using a common bathroom you might save loads of money… Cheap yet clean hotels with shared toilet facilities abound.
