Shattered Expectations

Anjni and Kalpa’s expectations were shattered within 24 hours. Rwanda greeted them with a neat airport, helpful and friendly officials, smooth roads, cleanliness, and no hassle whatsoever. Even people’s traditional attire wasn’t far from their own Indian heritage! The sisters live in Australia and America but they were born in Kenya, and they thought Rwanda would resemble their motherland much more than it actually does …

Yesterday their first morning under the volcanoes was devoted to looking for some cool dresses to rent because they were invited to our friend Adeline’s wedding. As you can see from the images, that was time very well spent!

The lunch was a pleasant surprise, with the vast majority of tasty dishes purely vegetarian. When the bride and the groom departed for the church ceremony, the sisters joined us for a Gorilla Highlands Experts video call about media strategy. Indeed, like many heroes before them they flew to our region to combine meaningful volunteering with adventurous travel!

In the coming days they will climb Mts Sabyinyo and Bisoke and enjoy more wonders on a tour of Uganda — will it challenge their anticipations too?

  1. WOW this is absolutely amazing. These two beautiful Indian ladies have most certainly inspired me to come to Rwanda. Rwanda was never a country I ever given a thought to visiting, due to it’s negative press articles.
I am so in awe of this positive feedback and, I will most definitely be coming to Rwanda shortly.
    Thank you.

    1. Yeah, our part of Africa is definitely getting a lot of bad press for no good reason …
