Tailored African Experiences: Six Greek Adventurers

Ready for a glimpse into the African journey of six Greek explorers? They came to our region to volunteer but thanks to early planning totally maxed their trip with a customised experience!

Angelos, a nuclear physicist, reached out to us last year, already preparing for June 2024. He dreamt of an affordable tour for four, and together we crafted a perfect visit for him, Anastasia, Antonia and Danae. It combined the mountain gorillas of Bwindi, Batwa “Pygmies” of Echuya, and the savannah wildlife of Queen Elizabeth NP.

This itinerary laid down the foundation for another Greek traveler. Raf, a software engineer in another Wheeling2help group, wanted a similar trip but had more time on his hands. He added the zebras and giraffes of Lake Mburo NP and a check on the mighty Nile. Raf would enjoy the same driver guide, Davis, and listen to the same hits blasting from his speakers.

Our final Greek adventurer was Lena, a last-minute addition. She would tag along with the Angelos crew to Queen Elizabeth NP and then continue by herself to Kampala.

For the lucky ones with extra time, Rwanda featured even more colour! Angelos and Anastasia managed to squeeze in a trip to Musanze to meet our local chocolatiers and hike up to the stunning crater lake atop Mt Bisoke.

Raf’s experience was longer and included the golden monkeys on his way to Mt Bisoke. However, his favourite experience was the informal and improvised walk around Musanze, where the people of the Gorilla Highlands proved to be a prime enrichment.

“The walk in the town was incredible, please suggest this to everyone! It was so nice to wander around without any tourists and noise, it felt way more adventurous than any official experience. We learned a lot and saw many things, like schools, bars with banana beer, the chocolate factory, etc.! Great day!”

We design our tours to be flexible and personalised, allowing anyone to join regardless of any budgetary or time constraints, and we are always on the lookout for something different. But it was a surprise that a little stroll around our hometown could make such an impression!
