Who Is in the Second Crop of Youth Spaces?
This year, our call to participate in GHE Youth Spaces received many fantastic responses! Ambitious youngsters seem to be excited about the program. It wasn’t easy selecting from 56 group applications from approximately 120 individuals! We are inviting the following 30 young leaders with inspired ideas to gain knowledge and resources and contribute to our environment:
- Strawberry production (farming using innovative and sustainable methods): Achille Papy Mukasa & John Nzayisenga
- Boat tours on Lake Kivu (visiting the shores and islands of the lake while protecting aquatic animals and bird species): Honore Birame Ayumutima & Aline Inez
- Biodegradable sugarcane based products (fiber tableware items from sugarcane residue): David Ishimwe & Alice Uwiringiyimana
- Fashionable clothing repair (creative restoration of used/torn clothes): Omeri Irakoze Dushime, Obed Mdabarinzi & Elyse Nkubito Mugisha
- Pavement production from plastic waste (we merged two teams): Nicolas Rwivanga, Henriette Uwiduhaye, Delice Ineza Shema Kamikazi, Catherine Banisto & Gedeon Tumusif
- Producing cold-pressed virgin avocado oil (exploiting nutritional and cosmetic benefits while minimising avocadoes post harvest losses): Emmanuel Rangiryayo & Immacule Niyigena
- Beet-nourishment creations (nourishing paste and porridge flour from beetroot): Brigitte Ishimwe & Justine Mukanayisenga
- Earthworms for gardens (production of effective natural fertiliser from earthworms and other waste material): Pricilla Mugwaneza, Blaise Iradukunda & Sandrine Uwineza
- Sustainable mushroom farming (seeds farming on small plots): Diane Ingabire, Samuel Ntukabumwe, Denys Ndizeye Amani & Nathan Niyonsaba
- Youth empowerment conservation association (small businesses that conserve the environment): Jean Yves Hirwa & Bless Irakoze
- Teaching Microsoft/Google app skills in rural areas (using essays and resources about environmental conservation): Aime Jean-Paul Mugisha, Jules Maurice Uwayezu & Benon Irakoze
Weekend get-togethers will start later this month — the exact date and place will be communicated to the above teams. At the final presentation in August, the winners will take home seed funding courtesy of OMG MENA.
